September 26th races to memorialize Joey Trunzler

The Dirt Drag Racing Association (DDRA) and the Louisiana Off Road Race Park announced today that their final points race of the season will be dedicated to the memory of Joey Trunzler. The 39 year old Jonesville native died this past week. He was a track fixture since its inception; beloved by fans and racers alike.

“This will be the Joey Trunzler Memorial Dirt Drags,” DDRA president David McMillin said of the races set for September 26. “We are going to ask anyone who wants to make a love offering for his family to do so at this race.”

“He was very special to our racers and fans and was part of our personal race family,” McMillin noted of Trunzler who had worked his way up from avid fan to track coordinator.

On the racing side McMillin noted the gates will open at 8 AM with registration starting at 9 AM. Hot passes for ET will start at 9:30 AM. ET heat races will start at 11 AM.

All other classes need to be registered, teched, and ready to run by 2 PM.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children.

The race park will host a concert following the races featuring  Baton Rouge’s Wasted Days Band. The band will start performing at 9:30 PM with an admission of $15 for adults and $10 for children.

A combo pass for the race and concert is only $25 for adults and $20 for children.

“We encourage everyone to come out; enjoy some fine racing and a great concert,” McMillin said. “Come spend the weekend at the park and help us remember Joey.”

The 60-acre park, located 7 miles north of Jonesville, La., contains ample parking, restrooms, concessions, and souvenir t-shirts. Bleachers are available but you are welcome to bring your lawn chairs and ice chests (please no glass containers).  Free camping spaces for self contained campers, tents, etc., will be available this weekend.

There are no electrical or water hookups at this time. Water and sewage dump is available.

Points Banquet
The DDRA has changed the banquet from Saturday, November 21st to Saturday, November 14th, for their 2nd annual Points Banquet. The location and time will be set soon.
